Many of our Littles will be the first in their families to pursue higher education, so our Education and Enrichment program helps them navigate the process. The first step? “Deciding what you want from the college experience, and learning what schools can provide it,” says Monica Billy, Education and College Access Coordinator.
That’s the thought behind the newest initiative from BBBS: College Club. Littles who are currently in high school (grades 9-12) and their Bigs or parents/guardians can attend a series of college tours and workshops that will introduce them to area colleges and guide them through the application and enrollment process.
“Getting ready for college should be exciting, not intimidating,” says Monica. “In College Club, Littles can meet other teen matches and plan for their futures, all while having a really good time.”
College Club will kick off with a social before the National College Fair on October 7. Upcoming activities and events will include workshops about college applications, financial aid and enrollment, as well as lots of campus tours of schools in the Twin Cities, greater Minnesota and neighboring states.
College Club is open to Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Greater Twin Cities matches, with Littles in grades 9-12. For more information about joining College Club, contact Monica Billy, firstname.lastname@example.org or 651.789.2410.
